Empowering Excellence and Innovation

When the Orthoptic department at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust had difficulty sourcing Fixation Sticks, Violet Mitchell from our Purchasing Team took the challenge to our own Maxillofacial Laboratory, led by Edward Malton, RDT FIMPT CMgr. Terry Jolly, Senior Specialist Technician, soon came up with a solution.

Fixation Sticks are a specialised orthoptic tool designed to assist in eye examinations for children. Particularly useful during the Prism Cover Test and other orthoptic assessments, the Fixation Sticks are held at a 33cm distance at mid-line eye level, ensuring proper accommodation is maintained during testing. By using his specialist Cad-Cam knowledge and 3D printing expertise, Terry was able to manufacture a perfect Fixation Stick, and will now be supplying the Orthoptic Department on a monthly basis.

Some fantastic collaboration between our teams to ensure clinicians have access to the right equipment at the right time for their patients.
