British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS) Annual Scientific Meeting 2026

The British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Annual Scientific Meeting 2026 was the UK’s flagship conference for oral and maxillofacial surgeons, trainees, dentists, researchers, and allied healthcare professionals. It took place from 24–26 June at the International Convention Centre in Belfast, and was hosted by Professor Patrick Magennis, the 64th BAOMS President.

The overarching theme was ‘Inter-Faces’, emphasizing collaboration across specialties, disciplines, and healthcare professions involved in managing diseases and injuries of the face, jaws, mouth, and head and neck.

As Chairman of the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists Technologists (IMPT), Edward Malton, head of Healthcare Partner’s Maxillofacial Laboratory, was invited to attend the three-day scientific meeting held in Belfast. Richard Eggleton, Consultant Maxillofacial Prosthetist, and Ross Kaighin, Principal Maxillofacial Prosthetist, attended as delegates.

The IMPT study day was held on Thursday 25 June, and consisted of a full day seminar with a workshop sponsored by KLS Martin. At the workshop, Edward joined the attendees in creating a mandibular recon bar, which was something he hadn’t done for many years. He soon got the hang of the special bending pliers again!

The main IMTP programme included speakers from the Maxillofacial profession, and there was a very interesting talk about AI assisted workflow in Orthognathic surgery, highlighting the benefits of digital planning in comparison to traditional methods.

Following the Gala dinner, held in the prestigious Titanic Museum, there was an early start for the final day. The IMPT took the opportunity to engage with a number of school leavers who were attending the morning BAOMS conference, in order to demonstrate the fantastic work carried out in the profession, and to generate interest in becoming a Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Reconstructive Scientist of the future.
