Senior Specialist Dental Technician

Our newly recruited Senior  Specialist Dental Technician Terry, started his career as an apprentice while working in Aigburth Dental Laboratory in 1994, before qualifying with a BTEC National Diploma in Dental Technology in 1997.

In 1999 Terry joined the Royal Air Force, as the first Dental technician  to be recruited in over 10 years. On completion of Basic Training, he was posted into the RAF Command Lab in RAF Halton in the rank of Junior Technician. He expanded his skills and knowledge from Prosthetics  with 6 month stints in Chrome Cobalt framework, Orthodontics, gold work, and single un it and multi-unit Crown and Bridge.  

In 2001 he was successfully promoted to rank of Corporal, after 2 week  leadership and management course, including Military field skills  and posted out to a 2 man satellite laboratory in HMS Drake Plymouth, where he was able to expand the skills he learnt and provide technical support and advice to the Royal Navy as part of Defence Dental Services.

In 2003 Terry was then posted to British Forces Germany in Joint Headquarters Rheindahlen. Where he worked alongside his Army colleagues in a 8 man laboratory based in Wegberg Hospital. In September 2003 he was selected and successfully promoted to Sargent, after completion  he achieved a qualification in Senior Leadership and Management, learning  ore in depth techniques and processes.  where he took on the role of senior technician running both Prosthetics and Chrome departments.

In 2007 He was selected to be posted to British Forces Cyprus in RAF Akrotiri, a posting that was not normally available in his current rank. During his time he was in the role Manger Dental Laboratory and Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery (OMFS) departments. This role took him between labs based in RAF Akrotiti and Episkopi Garrison where he provided orthodontic technical services for both service personal and the families.

In 2010 He returned to Germany where he was senior technician in Prosthetics and orthodontics departments. He served there for 2 years which sadly included being involved in the closing  and returning of equipment from ALL Germany laboratories to the Army lab Aldershot Garrison. He returned to the laboratory prior to being made redundant and the end  of uniformed Technical service in 2014.

From 2014-2021, he worked in Queen Victoria Hospital as senior Specialist Orthodontic technician and completed his qualification in PAR scoring. Her remained there providing services until 2021. Where he worked as the Senior specialist Orthodontic technician for Epsom and Guildford Orthodontics, where he had his first introduction to CADCAM.

As of 2023, Terry is now  our Senior Dental technician. Where he is lead orthodontics technician providing specialist technical support, while using both CADCAM and plaster models in fixed, functional and removable appliances to our Consultants, registrars and therapists.
